Mum recently got an email with this link, and it is still so great that I thought I should repost it. Wentley Phipps sings 'Amazing Grace' in Carnegie Hall, explaining that the negro spirituals were created on the black notes of the keyboard (the pentatonic scale). John Newton, the writer of the spiritual 'Amazing Grace' was a former slave ship captain, who became a Christian and penned this hymn to mark his change from lost to find, blind to seeing. The music is written by 'unknown'; hinting that it was sung by the slaves on his ship, and taken by Newton to point to how great God is. It's a perfect mesh of black and white. Great for those suffering racial oppression. Great for those suffering as a result of discrimination. We are all connected by His grace!
